Past Topics : Habits of Health Tuesdays
My path started almost 40 years ago when I was around 35 years old. I was with a multi-level marketing company called Matol Botanical. I was taking a multi-mineral product called Km to see if it would assist with a very serious back problem and cluster headaches. (P.S. it seemed to work.)
The company came out with a High Fiber product and I started taking it, also. For the next year and a half I watched my Transit Time (how long it takes for a bite of food to go from the mouth to the gut and be eliminated) improve immensely. I also noticed that my stool color was changing from an almost black to and mild brown. In addition, I was having better bulk and that instead of sinkers, I was having floaters. No more alternating between Diarrhea and Constipation, BUT it took a year and a half.
At that time, I had no idea of what was going on internally in my body. I didn’t know anything about detoxification. I was working in the Electronic Industry. A true type “A” personality. This was way before I seriously considered changing careers and entering the Holistic Arena. I was playing a lot of racquet ball back then and it just seemed like the thing to do.
There is a huge difference between Toxins stored in the body and inflammation created by the body’s immune response.
TOXINS:
We pick up toxins when we shower and slather on shampoos, and body scrubs that contain toxins.
We breathe in gas fumes every time we put gas in our cars.
The carpets in our house out-gas the toxins from the glues used in the manufacturing process.
We actually create toxins (Free Radicals) when we work out, especially when we work out to excess.
The CO2 (carbon dioxide) build up in the body can be considered a toxin. Breathing properly and efficiently can greatly improve the elimination of CO2.
INFLAMMATION:
When the gums become red and swollen, when they bleed easily, you may be diagnosed with Gingivitis or periodontal disease. The bacteria and inflammation generated by this condition can be picked up by the circulation system of the body and distributed to the heart, in turn creating heart conditions.
Had a colonoscopy lately? Many times they with find small ulcers (sores) on your intestinal wall. These sores in the early stages are not felt or recognized, but as they mature can result in Ulcerative Colitis and/or a leaky gut—all leading to a heightened immune response trying to fight off the infection and inflammation created by the bacteria in that area.
Maybe you have twisted an ankle or knee. Ever notice a black and blue area or edema (swelling) on either? These in turn create that immune response, which in turn creates inflammation, which must be handled by the body.
Many, many different scenarios will create an immune response. However, one that is overlooked by many Health Experts is that of an excessive toxin over-load. Heavy metals (Mercury and Lead), carcinogens, and hormone mimics can all create an immune response leading to increased inflammation.
Time and nature are sometimes the way to combat and heal the inflammation build up.
Other times we may need antibiotics to assist in the recovery. However, if we fail to eliminate the source (Toxin Overload), we stay in a continuous loop.
By far the best way to eliminate an inflammatory problem in the body is to prevent it from occurring in the first place.
Choose Pre-Hab over Re-Hab!
Two types of Physical Detoxification:
Internal (using herbs and food)
External (using an Infrared Sauna)
A third type of detoxification should be added: Mental Detoxification
Internal Process for Detoxification:
1. Get the bowels cleaned first and develop a good transit time.
2. Detoxify the liver – get the bile moving properly.
3. Cleanse the Blood.
Blood, even though it carries the most contamination, needs to be cleaned last. All toxins released from the blood stream must be filtered out by the liver and then eliminated via the intestines. If either the liver or bowels are clogged up, then those toxins will go right back into the blood stream.
To do a real, proper cleanse and Detoxification, I would suggest setting aside about a year for the process. Detoxification is an ongoing process and once started should be followed for the rest of your life. I’m sure you don’t want to do one of the “7 day wonder detox’s” for the rest of your life.
The Diet will have to change, as well. Adding additional Fiber to your daily regimen is a place to start. Get 25 to 35 grams of Fiber every day. Make sure you get both soluble and insoluble fiber in your diet.
You can’t continue putting in the things that created the contamination in the first place and expect different results.
Most nutritionists and some Doctors agree that the GUT is typically the place where all disease begins.
